CARJACKING ENDS WITH A TRAFFIC COLLISION AND MULTIPLE INJURIES

 

  1. November 11, two males carjacked a person at knife point in Oceanside and stole a Subaru Forester. Later in the evening, at 10:15 p.m., an unrelated motorist in Escondido called 9-1-1 to report the driver of the Subaru was swerving and was possibly driving under the influence of alcohol. While on the 9-1-1 call and before police were dispatched, the witness saw the Subaru run the red light at Fig Street and Valley Parkway and collide with a Toyota pick-up truck. Escondido Fire Paramedics provided medical aid at the scene for multiple patients. Traffic investigators from the Escondido Police Department responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Based on witness statements and evidence located at the scene, the driver of the Toyota truck was ejected from his vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Palomar Medical Center for medical treatment. After colliding with the truck, the Subaru collided into Frida’s Tacos at 675 E. Valley Parkway, a corner business at the intersection. Frita’s Tacos was occupied but there were no reported injuries to customers or staff. At the time of the collision the stolen Subaru was occupied by six people. Two adult males, two adult females and two young children ages three and five. Hans Velasquez, a 20-year-old male Oceanside resident, was identified as the driver and was arrested a short distance away after fleeing from the collision on foot. Velasquez was arrested for carjacking, felony driving under the influence of alcohol, felony hit-and-run and felony child endangerment. Anthony Quezada, a 19-year-old male resident of Escondido, also fled the scene on foot and was arrested and charged with carjacking. The two adult females in the vehicle were transported to area hospitals for minor injuries. The two children were transported to Rady Children’s Hospital and have minor injuries. The investigation is on-going, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Traffic Investigator Adan Martinez at 760-839-4465. Oceanside Police Department is conducting the investigation of the carjacking.

El 11 de noviembre, dos hombres secuestraron a una persona a punta de cuchillo en Oceanside y robaron un Subaru Forester. Más tarde en la noche, un automovilista no relacionado en Escondido llamó al 9-1-1 para informar que el conductor del Subaru se estaba desviando y posiblemente conducía bajo la influencia del alcohol. Mientras estaba en la llamada al 9-1-1 y antes de que se enviara a la policía, el testigo vio al Subaru pasar el semáforo en rojo en Fig Street y Valley Parkway y chocar con una camioneta Toyota.Los investigadores de tráfico del Departamento de Policía de Escondido acudieron al lugar para realizar más investigaciones. Con base en declaraciones de testigos y evidencia ubicada en el lugar, el conductor de la camioneta Toyota fue expulsado de su vehículo y sufrió lesiones que amenazaron su vida. Fue trasladado al Centro Medico Palomar para recibir tratamiento médico. Después de chocar con el camión, el Subaru chocó con Frida's Tacos en 675 E. Valley Parkway, un negocio ubicado en la esquina de la intersección. Frita's Tacos estaba ocupado, pero no se reportaron lesiones a los clientes ni al personal. En el momento de la colisión, el Subaru robado estaba ocupado por seis personas. Dos hombres adultos, dos mujeres adultas y dos niños pequeños de tres y cinco años. Hans Velásquez, un residente de Oceanside de 20 años, fue identificado como el conductor y fue arrestado a poca distancia después de huir a pie del choque.Velásquez fue arrestado por robo de auto, delito de conducir bajo la influencia del alcohol, delito grave de atropello y fuga y delito grave de poner en peligro a un menor. Anthony Quezada, un residente masculino de 19 años de Escondido, también huyó del lugar a pie y fue arrestado y acusado de robo de auto. Las dos mujeres adultas en el vehículo fueron transportadas a hospitales del área por heridas leves. Los dos niños fueron transportados al Hospital de Niños Rady y tienen heridas leves. La investigación está en curso y se recomienda a cualquier persona que tenga información que se comunique con el investigador de tráfico Adan Martinez al 760-839-4465. El Departamento de Policía de Oceanside está investigando el robo de auto.
