OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
On December 26, 2021, a homicide occurred in Vista, California, which is being investigated by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Department released a wanted person bulletin for homicide suspect Roberto Salgado, a 39-year-old resident of Ramona. Included in the bulletin was a description of the vehicle Salgado was driving, a 2018 Chevy Silverado.
At 11:19 p.m., an Escondido Police Officer spotted the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Salgado was driving the truck and failed to yield, leading police on a lengthy pursuit for several hours. The truck was also occupied by a female passenger. The pursuit route included driving to interstate 5 freeway before returning to Escondido. Police used spike strips to reduce speeds of the truck and attempt to safely end the pursuit. Three of the four tires were deflated but the vehicle continued at slow speeds. During the pursuit it was learned that the suspect’s vehicle was equipped with OnStar, and they were able to remotely disable the truck in the area of Mission Avenue and Gamble Street in Escondido.
When the truck stopped, Salgado exited and there was an exchange of gunfire between him and two Escondido Police Officers. The suspect was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at an area hospital. One Escondido Police Officer who fired his weapon was shot by the suspect. He was treated at Palomar Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and released. The female passenger was not injured.

OFICIAL INVOLUCRADO EN UN TIROTEO
El 26 de diciembre de 2021, ocurrió un homicidio en Vista, California, que está siendo investigado por el Departamento del Sheriff del condado de San Diego. El Departamento del Sheriff publicó un boletín de una persona que era el sospechoso de un homicidio. El hombre nombrado fue Roberto Salgado, un residente de Ramona de 39 años. En el boletín se incluía una descripción del vehículo que conducía Salgado, una Chevy Silverado 2018.
A las 11:19 p.m., un oficial de policía de Escondido vio el vehículo e inició una parada de tráfico. Salgado conducía el vehículo y no cedió, lo que llevó a la policía a una persecución prolongada durante varias horas. El vehículo también estaba ocupado por una pasajera. La ruta de persecución incluyó conduciendo hasta la autopista interestatal 5 antes de regresar a Escondido. La policía usó tiras de púas para reducir la velocidad del vehículo e intentar terminar la persecución de manera segura. Tres de los cuatro neumáticos se desinflaron, pero el vehículo continuó a baja velocidad. Durante la persecución se supo que el vehículo del sospechoso estaba equipado con el sistema OnStar y pudieron inhabilitar remotamente el vehículo en el área de Mission Avenue y Gamble Street en Escondido.
Cuando el vehículo se detuvo, Salgado salió y hubo un intercambio de disparos entre él y dos policías de Escondido. El sospechoso recibió varios disparos y fue declarado muerto en un hospital de la zona. Un oficial de policía de Escondido que disparó su arma recibió un disparo del sospechoso. Fue tratado en Palomar Medical Center por una herida de bala en el lado izquierdo de su pecho y fue dado de alta. La pasajera no resultó herida.
